Black Violin, Augustin Hadelich, Richard O'Neill nominated for 2021 Grammys

By Laurie Niles: Congratulations to violinist Augustin Hadelich, violist Richard O'Neill, the group Black Violin, as well as all the nominees announced Tuesday for the Recording Academy's 63nd Grammy Awards, which will take place January 31. The Florida-based classical/hip-hop group Black Violin, featuring violinist Kevin Sylvester and violist Wilner Baptiste (who go by Kev Marcus and Wil B), was nominated in the category of "Best Contemporary Instrumental Album" for its recording "Take the Stairs." Violinist Augustin Hadelich and violist Richard O'Neill were nominated in the category of "Best Classical Instrumental Solo." Hadelich was nominated for "Bohemian Tales," his recording of Janácek’s Violin Sonata, Josef Suk’s Four Pieces, and Dvorák’s Humoresque with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Jakub Hruša. O'Neill was nominated for "Theofanidis: Concerto for Violin and Chamber Orchestra," his recording of viola works by Christopher Theofanidis with the Albany Symphony, David Alan Miller conducting. A number of string ensembles were nominated for "Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance, including the Pacific Quartet for "Contemporary Voices"; Brooklyn Rider for "Healing Modes"; and the Dover Quartet for "The Schumann Quartets."
