O'Neill won in the "Best Classical Instrumental Solo" for "Theofanidis: Concerto for Violin and Chamber Orchestra," his recording of viola works by Christopher Theofanidis with the Albany Symphony, David Alan Miller conducting. The Pacifica Quartet won in the Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance for its "Contemporary Voices" album. And the "Best Orchestral Performance" Grammy went to the Los Angeles Philharmonic for its recording of Ives: Complete Symphonies," with Gustavo Dudamel conducting.
The LA Phil recording of Ives' four symphonies was recorded for Deutsche Grammophon during concert performances at Walt Disney Concert Hall in February 2020, just weeks before the world went into Covid-19 lockdown. "This recording was made during some of the final performances before the pandemic shutdown, and so we all have such powerful, poignant memories around it," Gustavo Dudamel said. "We are honored to have it receive this award and recognition, and we look forward to the day when we can all make music together again safely."
