V.com weekend vote: How recently have you attended a live musical performance?

By Laurie Niles: Want to get your mind off the Internet and your eyeballs off the computer screen? Go to a concert! With the explosion of music available at the push of a button through Spotify, Youtube, etc., one thing remains unique: live performance. Seeing musicians play live is just one wonderful part of it; the other part is simply being in a group of people sharing an experience together. In all likelihood, if you seek out a musical performance that interests you, you'll find there a group of people that share at least one of your interests. One possibility, of course, is your local symphony orchestra. I'm lucky to live in Los Angeles, a big city with many orchestras; but you do not have to be in a huge metropolis to experience fantastic music. I've been impressed with my parents, who have a subscription to the Cincinnati Symphony and have managed to see both Hilary Hahn and Gil Shaham in the course of less than a month! What would you like to see live, if you could? And how can you make that happen? There are so many possibilities, classical and otherwise. On the classical side of things, you can look into recital series, student recitals, church performances, operas, competitions, etc. And when it comes to your other musical tastes, seek out the live version of those as well: small concerts in bars, huge stadium shows, musical theater, the list goes on. The point is to get out and show up for live music. When is the last time you saw a live musical performance? Please share your experiences and thoughts in the comments.
