The presentation will include rarely-seen photos and videos, with a Q and A with the virtual audience to follow at the end.
"Dorothy DeLay (was) one of the most important, impactful, powerful, and revolutionary violin pedagogues who touched hundreds, if not thousands, of violinists, including myself," Lee said. "I feel the weight on my shoulders to be giving this talk as one of her very late students, but I am extremely excited to be joined by guests who exemplify the different generations that Ms. DeLay touched, including Itzhak Perlman and Cho-Liang Lin."
"Im also thrilled to have Sandra Rivers as my guest a brilliant pianist who played for Ms. DeLays lessons for over 20 years in the 1970s and 80s. I am especially interested in chatting with Sandra about how Ms. DeLay inspired and helped her career as a woman of color during that era," Lee said. "Its been a tremendous few months doing my research on Ms. DeLay and learning about her dedication, intelligence, and passion for bringing the golden age of violin. I hope you will join me and my guests on this very special evening!"
The program is presented by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Centers Musical Heritage Series.
Lee, who studied with DeLay in the '90s in Juilliard's Pre-College Division, also studied with Perlman and earned a master's degree from The Juilliard School. A recipient of the 2015 Avery Fisher Career Grant, Lee was recently appointed to the faculty of University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music as Assistant Professor of Violin. She has performed as a soloist with many major orchestras around the world.
