By Laurie Niles: Today violinist Elmar Oliveira and the Lynn Conservatory of Music announced the inaugural Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition, to take place next winter, Jan. 22 through Feb. 5, 2017 at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fl.
"The mission of the Elmar Oliveira International Violin Competition is to nurture and develop talented young violinists, who are drawn from a truly global pool, Oliveira said. Through this competition, we will provide the next generation of violinists with career-building tools not solely financial ones that are so necessary in todays world. This is our ultimate goal."
The competition is open to violinists ages 16-32, and online applications can be found here, with repertoire requirements listed here. Entries for consideration must be submitted online with a $100 registration fee by September 30, 2016.
Prizes include a First Prize of US$30,000; Second Prize US$15,000 and Third Prize US$10,000, as well as additional career support for the first prize winner, including help with management, public relations and performance opportunities.
Judges will include: Andrés Cárdenes, Gudny Gudmundsdottir, Daniel Heifetz, Ilya Kaler, Vera Tsu Wei-ling, and Elmar Weingarten; with one additional judge TBA.
I truly believe in giving back, Oliveira said. I have had a wonderful career, helped by many people in the industry. Now, it is my time to do the same."
