Winners announced in the 2022 Fischoff Chamber Music Competition

By Laurie Niles: Congratulations to the winners in the 49th annual Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, in which 55 ensembles from around the world competed last week, May 20-22 at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
Terra String Quartet
The Terra String Quartet.
Top winners in the strings divisions included the New York City-based Terra String Quartet, who won the Grand Prize Medal ($10,000 award) as well as the Gold Medal in the Senior String Division. The Olive Trio, based at The Colburn School Music Academy in Los Angeles, won the Gold Medal in the Junior String Division. Jury members in the Junior String division included cellist Anthony Arnone, pianist Elinor Freer, and violinist Rebecca McFaul. New this year was the Lift Every Voice Prize ($1,500), for best performance of a piece by a historically underrepresented composer in the chamber music world. This inaugural prize focuses on works by Black, Hispanic, Latino or Latina composers. That prize went to the Sequoia Reed Quintet, from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
