Time for Three, Attacca Quartet, NY Youth Symphony Win 2023 Grammys

By Laurie Niles: Congratulations to Time for Three, the Attacca Quartet, the New York Youth Symphony and to all winners of 2023 Grammy Awards, which were announced on Sunday at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

Time for Three: bassist Ranaan Meyer and violinists Charles Yang and Nick Kendall.
Time for Three, an ensemble comprised of violinists Nicolas Kendall and Charles Yang and double bassist Ranaan Meyer, won a Grammy in the category of "Best Classical Instrumental Solo" for its album Letters For The Future, recorded with The Philadelphia Orchestra and conductor Xian Zhang. The album comprises world premiere recordings of two technically demanding and musically virtuosic concerti for trio and orchestra by two Pulitzer Prize-winning composers: Jennifer Higdon’s 2007 Concerto 4-3 and Kevin Puts’ new piece, "Contact," which also won a Grammy in the category of "Best Contemporary Classical Composition" for Puts. Codes (Scherzo): The Attacca Quartet also won a Grammy in the category "Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance" for its album "Evergreen," a recording of five original works by Caroline Shaw: three pieces written for string quartet—Three Essays, Blueprint, and The Evergreen — and two songs written for string quartet and voice. It also includes an interpretation of a twelfth century French poem, which the Quartet performs with Shaw on vocals. BELOW: From "The Evergreen," II. Stem: The New York Youth Symphony, led by conductor Michael Repper, won a Grammy in the category "Best Orchestral Performance" for its recording of Works By Florence Price, Jessie Montgomery, Valerie Coleman. The album is the orchestra's debut recording, made during the pandemic, featuring four works by three African American female composers.
