By Laurie Niles: Applications are open for the Classic Violin Olympus International Competition, a new competition involving six separate pre-selection competitions during 2024 in Tokyo, Vienna, New York, London, Paris and Tel Aviv - and culminating in a Grand Finale competition in Dubai, in April 2025. The Grand Finale will offer a First Prize of 200,000.
The six international pre-selection competitions will each have their own prize fund of 35,000, with a jury of five internationally acclaimed artists for each.
The two top-ranked violinists from each pre-selection competition will be invited to form the group of 12 violinists that will participate in the Grand Finale competition April 22-28, 2025 in Dubai. The Grand Finale will involve two rounds with symphony orchestra, played for a 23-member jury board, comprised of conductors and directors of acclaimed orchestras, festivals and concert series. The Grand Finale's First Prize of 200,000 will come from a total prize fund of 310,000.
The six international competitions that serve as preliminary rounds will take place during 2024 as follows:
Contestants must be born after April 22, 1979 to be eligible for participation. Twenty applicants will be selected for each of the six competitions listed above.
The Classic Violin Olympus is led by Artistic Director Pavel Vernikov and President Konstantin Ishkhanov.
