Brett and Eddy Announce No More New Content as TwoSet Violin

By Laurie Niles: On Monday Brett Yang and Eddy Chen - the wildly popular Australian comedy team that has been creating humorous violin videos and more since 2013 - posted what they called their "last piece of content as TwoSet Violin." Their post, which went out to the 978,000 followers on their Instagram page, said: "This will be the last piece of content we post as TwoSet Violin. It’s been a wild ride with you all for the last 11 years. We’ve all grown up together and it’s kinda surreal that we’re ending our chapter here. Thank you for all the laughs, the genuine encounters in real life and all the special moments we’ve had with you online and offline. Much love, Brett and Eddy" The content on their Instagram page had been reduced to just two posts: that announcement plus one other recent post. Their YouTube channel - with 4.3 million subscribers - remained up, but instead of the thousands of videos that it once carried, just 29 videos remained. The remaining videos did appear to be intentionally curated. Fans were left to parse their words - "last piece of content we post as TwoSet Violin" - are they just re-branding? Or is this truly the end? The pair has joked about calling it quits before - but it always turned out to be an April Fools Day joke or other gag. Violinist Hilary Hahn, who has collaborated with TwoSet for many years, commented on their Instagram announcement: "So many congrats on a job well done! And thank you for everything you have done for the musical community. Not just classical! You guys rock." TwoSet Apparel - which sells sweatshirts and other TwoSet-branded items - also announced on Instagram that "it's time to say goodbye...Now, with a mix of gratitude and nostalgia, we’re announcing the FINALE of this chapter for TwoSet Apparel. To celebrate, we’re having our 11th Anniversary Sale – your LAST chance to grab your favourite pieces before we say goodbye!" TwoSet Violin's website remained up, with a live sign-up for its TwoSet Academy, spawning speculation that perhaps the two will continue as TwoSet Academy. Still, there is a lot of sadness, and here is one post from Instagram (among hundreds on various platforms!) that said it well: "I am a retired orchestra teacher. You have no idea how many young string students you have inspired to play and practice a stringed instrument. Your humorous take on all things music has provided comic relief and fun throughout my teaching career in my classroom. Playing an instrument is hard work and kids often experience bullying etc. until they are confident enough to know what they do is worthwhile and life changing. Thank you for all of the fun and treasured memories. I am broken hearted to not be able to look forward to watching you and sharing you with my friends and students. All the best to you always and thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will never forget you."
