Dudamel and LA Phil Win Three 2025 Grammys

By Laurie Niles: Congratulations to conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz for their recording of Revolución Diamantina, which won three Grammys on Sunday. Winners were announced Sunday at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, with the classical categories announced a the "Premiere Ceremony" at the Peacock Theater and the main ceremony taking place at the Crypto.com Arena. "Revolución Diamantina" won Grammys in the categories of Best Orchestral Performance, Best Classical Compendium and Best Contemporary Classical Composition. Recorded live at Walt Disney Concert Hall in November 2023, "Revolución diamantina" is a ballet score inspired by Mexico’s 2019 "Glitter Revolution," the feminist uprising around the country’s epidemic of violence against women. The increase in femicide was a catalyst for this mobilization – and the name stems from an event during which protesters threw pink glitter at Mexico City’s chief of police, denouncing the department’s lack of response following the rape of a woman by local officers. "Gabriela Ortiz’s music speaks to both the body and the spirit, full of visceral primeval rhythms and mysterious, soulful sound-worlds," Dudamel said. "It has long been a dream of mine to dedicate an album entirely to her music. And now … we have made that dream a reality." The Grammy for "Best Classical Instrumental Solo" went to Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson for his recording of Bach's Goldberg Variations.Click here for a full list of the winners.
