What would we do without these beloved student concertos? This album includes five student concertos by Friedrich Seitz, including the ones that appear in Suzuki Book 4: Nos. 2 and 5. They receive a professional performance by Korean violinist Hyejin Chung and pianist Warren Lee. Seitz was a noted violinist who served as concertmaster of the Bayreuth Festspiele, toured widely as a soloist and also composed a series of works, principally for violin and piano. He is best known for his Schüler-Konzerte ("Student Concertos"), which have proved enduringly popular vehicles for young performers since they were published, at the turn of the 20th century. Vilde Frang's new recording with pianist José Gallardo was conceived as a homage to the players of the "Golden Age" of the violin, including short pieces by Fritz Kreisler, Leopold Auer and Joseph Szigeti and more. Born in 1986, Frang is a Norwegian violinist who trained in Germany. The album includes pieces such as: Wieniawskis "Mazurka No.1" and "Caprice Alla Saltarella," Ponces "Estrellita," Glucks "Melodie," Mendelssohns "Song Without Words," Ries "La Capricciosa," Kreislers Rondino" and "Gypsy Caprice."
