The Week in Reviews, Op. 233: Hilary Hahn; Nathan Cole; Philippe Quint

• The Providence Journal: "Divine violinist Hilary Hahn, who has been bedazzling audiences since her teens, helped cap off the final program of this summer’s Kingston Chamber Music Festival Sunday afternoon with some sizzling Bach."

Nathan Cole performed the Stravinsky Violin Concerto with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

• Los Angeles Times: "First associate concertmaster Nathan Cole had the Violin Concerto down cold with the right resilient, incisive approach..."

Philippe Quint performed William Bolcom’s 1984 Violin Concerto in D at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music.

• San Francisco Chronicle: "Saturday found violinist Philippe Quint bringing soulful suavity to William Bolcom’s 1984 Violin Concerto in D, a characteristically smooth amalgam of jazz, neoclassicism, and various other flavors as well."

Martin Chalifour performed Saint-Saens' Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

• Los Angeles Times: "Conductor (Paolo Bortolameolli) gave Martin Chalifour, the principal concertmaster, plenty of room for his trademark sweet-toned poise in Saint-Saens' Violin Concerto No. 1."

Nicola Benedetti performed Baroque works with the Academy of Ancient Music.

Rachel Podger performed Mozart Violin Concerto No. 1 and No. 5 with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

• The Press (York): "Podger made light of the double stops in the opening cadenza of Mozart’s Fifth Concerto, found a plaintive serenity in the central Adagio, and made us marvel at the varied returns to the rondo theme. Musical delights come no sweeter."
