First-prize winner of the 2014 International Violin Competition of Indianapolis and 2006 Concours musical international de Montréal as well the Buenos Aires, Schoenfeld, and Stulberg Competitions, Jinjoo been touring the world as a concert violinist since the age of 11.
As an educator, Jinjoo is founding artistic director of ENCORE Chamber Music Institute in Cleveland and assistant professor of violin at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. She has previously served as violin faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music and Oberlin Conservatory. She has also served on the official jury panel of a number of international competitions, including the 2022 Indianapolis and 2024 Schoenfeld competitions, and on the screening committees for the Montréal and Premio Paganini competitions.
Jinjoo is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees, as well as her Professional Studies Diploma. Jinjoo studied with a number of prominent teachers, including Paul Kantor and Jaime Laredo.
Jinjoo Chos resume as a performer is distinguished in its own right, but she is equally impressive as an educator," Bienen School of Music dean Jonathan Bailey Holland said. "Her forward-looking energy, rigorous yet supportive pedagogical approach, and creativity will complement and strengthen the Bienen School faculty. We are thrilled to welcome her to Northwestern."
She has also produced four recordings: Saint-Saëns (Naïve Classique); La Capricieuse (SONY Classical); The Indianapolis Commissions (Azica), and Jinjoo Cho (Analekta). She has also commissioned new works by composers Juri Seo and Andrew Rindfleisch and has collaborated with artists of other disciplines such as dancer/choreographer Jinyeob Cha. In 2021, Jinjoos first book, Shine Someday, was listed as a best seller on major book platforms in Korea.
